USF Esports Summer Camp
The USF Esports Summer Camp spawned as a brainchild from upper-level directors in the Vinik Sport & Entertainment Management program at USF. Originally slated to include a fixed age range (12~16), children as young as 8 were signed up for the camp. Called upon by my supervisor at USF Esports to work alongside the director of the Vinik program, Michelle Harrolle, I was determined to make the camp successful despite some mismanagement and having almost no prepared material or plan in place. The week-long camp was run fully online through the messaging & communication platform, Discord, at an 8:45-3:00 PM day schedule. During this time, I solo led the group of children and teens through daily camp activities, including casual and competitive gameplay, community discussions, content learning, and tournaments. To fill the times where we were not playing, I developed a full curriculum which highlighted the esports industry and industries tangential to it such as the interactive entertainment industry. To close out the camp, I purchased a Minecraft server and hosted my final conceived activity of camp, a Minecraft build competition, awarding prizes to campers based on their creativity and technical skills.
